You can do that now! From the manual.
"When trading first-round picks, you can opt to "protect" the picks, with protection options of 1, 3, 5, and 10. If the pick winds up being in the top (specified number) of picks, the trading team will not lose it; instead, the recipient will get their next available first rounder in a subsequent year. Protected picks will have less value in a trade than unprotected picks."
