Marston (84-70) was only picked to finish 6th in the preseason prognostications... the Nine surprised the "whether" forecasters by almost winning the RU East... Elnora beat them out by a skimpy 2 games... Marston was down near the bottom of the division in April and May, but only 4 games out... then in June they went on a 19-7 rampage and leapfrogged everybody and bolted to the top spot, but not by much... the RU East was close top-to-bottom most of the year... Elnora had a red-hot July (21-5) and built up a 7-game lead over the Nine (12-14)... the Clippers led by 6 heading into September... Marston went 14-9 down the home stretch and lost in a photo finish by 2 games... Elnora just barely held on with a 10-12 record... the Nine had an adequate offense paced by Woodrow Gilbert and Bingo Crosby... Gilbert is a blossoming 24-year-old... Crosby is a speedster that has led the league in stolen bases for the last 4 seasons and 5 times in his career... three fairly good starters Scotty Robeson, Marv Mathews and Andy Carey topped the twirlers... and Calvin Pyle sparkled in the bullpen... good things are brewing in Marston.
