Money for Extensions vs. Free Agents

Can money for extensions and money for free agents both increase during the course of a season? I think I've seen this happen before, but I'm unable to recall for sure.

I'm currently playing a historical game where my team finances are showing $2 million more money for extensions than they did just one week earlier. I'm assuming this is due to growing fan interest and attendance, especially since the team has been playing really well and is in first place.

But there is no money for free agents, and it has remained that way despite the team's performance. I'm wondering if the money for free agents ever increases during the season in a similar way to what I'm seeing for money for extensions.

Ideally, if the team is making money and doing well, then it would be nice to see the budget grow for both extensions and free agents, in case a free agent becomes available during the season due to a player release.
