Games 112-113: Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Americans
The month of August is here and the Boston Americans finished up its series with the Chicago White Sox.
Game 112: The Americans (66-46) jumped out to an early lead and then had to hold on as the White Sox (49-63) made this a much closer game than it should have been in the 11 to 9 victory. Cy Young (15-12) did just enough to pick up the win, tossing 8 2/3 innings while allowing 9 runs (2 earned) on 10 hits while striking out 4 for a Game Score of 46. In a rather surprising move, Noodles Hahn came in for the final batter to earn his first save of the year. The losing pitcher was Willie Sudhoff (9-16) after allowing 6 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and 3 walks over 6 innings of play; Game Score of 39. The Chicago bullpen effort was mixed, as George "Nig" Cuppy allowed 5 runs (4 earned) in 1 inning, while Bill Cristall allowed 0 runs in his 1 inning of play. Boston's scoring was led by Frank Chance (2 for 3, 2 Runs, 1 RBI, 2 Walks), Fred Clarke (2 for 4, 1 Run, 1 Walk, 1 Stolen Base), Jesse Hoffmeister (2 for 5, Double, 1 Run, 1 RBI), and Kid Elberfeld (1 for 4, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs). Chicago was led by John Anderson (3 for 5, Double, Triple, 3 Runs, 1 RBI) and Mike Grady (2 for 4, Homerun, 1 Run, 3 RBIs) in the loss.

Game 113: A close game throughout, the White Sox (50-63) scored 2 runs in the 9th inning to win by a score of 4 to 2 over the Americans (66-47). Bill Carrick was the starting pitcher for Chicago, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits over 7 innings of play (Game Score of 60), but it was George "Nig" Cuppy (3-0) who picked up the win for his 2 innings of work. John Anderson (2 for 4, 1 RBI) and Mike Grady (2 for 3, Double, 1 RBI) provided the scoring support in the win.
