I'm sure some of these echo others' posts (and maybe some I've just not figured out?), but my initial requests follow...

1. Retired player profiles connected with their staff profile, though preferably literally the same profile page with playing history and staff history.
2. When players leave for international competitions, do not immediately drop them from the lineup; rather, let the manager handle it (e.g., “switch” players so the lines can be preserved and/or easily updated). Permit calling up players to replace them if needed (instead of having them take up spots on the active roster).
3. Separate international tab/menu and quick links for international manager position.
4. Clear delineation between ratings for international team and club team, with easy access to both where apppropriate. When on my national team, I get one star rating if I hover and another star rating on the roster and possible players screen. Related to this, (international) positional ratings should be context-appropriate, or there should be two different ratings.
5. International staff, including scouts. Or, failing that, the international manager should at least “know” the quality of their possible international players with high accuracy.
6. In US minor leagues, players contracted to the minor league team (not the NHL team) should not be controlled by NHL team. For example, as Tucson I signed a goalie but Arizona keeps re-assigning him to semi-pro when they send me goalies despite the fact my goalie isn't contracted to them.
7. International, national league, and/or nation-based Hall of Fame(s) or “famous players”. Just because you never make the NHL doesn't mean you didn't make a huge contribution to your league, nation, or in general. For example, 300 wins and 60 shutouts in 800 games in the NHL can get you into the Hall of Fame. With enough shutouts, you could get there by winning 41 games per season (50% of each season) for 8 seasons, or 30 games per season (36.5%) for 10 seasons. But with a 50-ish game European season, those totals aren’t realistic. Similarly, a player could lead their national team up through the IIHF ranks without ever playing in the NHL and be a legend in their country, but never be recognized in the game, even if we manage in that country. “Famous players” and other honors should be relative per context, like the regular awards. Related to this, a more transparent view of the hall of fame voting/calculation would be appreciated. How many votes did each player get? (Why?) And so on.
8. “Sibling of" link, not just grandfather, father, son. (See also requests related to female players and staff.)
9. Ability to add leagues to full "real" setup from the outset.
10. Ability to edit European leagues, even if very limited to avoid errors. (Though if we can edit/expand the NHL, why not all European leagues?)
11. Women’s leagues, international competitions, etc.
12. Female staff (any real, plus generated), with appropriate facegens.
13. When using forward and/or backward buttons, always actually go forward or backward to the next or previous screen accessed. It seems to often default back to a different team home page.
14. Combined “manager calendar” with important dates, etc., filterable by those that directly apply to the manager’s league/club, international team, etc.
15. Greater differentiation for email subscriptions. For example, I might want to know about a league’s coaching changes but not their suspensions. Or I might want to subscribe to updates on specific players.
16. Improved detail on contract negotiations and motivations. Why say (re-)enter negotiations if they haven’t been approached before? If they don’t want to (re-)sign, why not?
17. Improved detail in manager points, including for partial seasons. For example, I was manager of Team A and was hired by Team B in a different league partway through the season. That same season, I won a championship with Team B and was offered a job with Team C in yet another league shortly afterwards. I accepted the position with Team C, but then earned 0 points for that season and was not given anything to add to my ratings.
18. Job application process, perhaps even with “interviews” instead of immediate firing/hiring with blind offers out of nowhere.
19. Coach career stats sorting (e.g., “all competitive”, regular season, play-offs, international, etc.).
20. More realistic—or at least more transparent—reputations. As an American GM/coach I won the Champions Hockey League (and a Swedish league title) with a team I improved to become the best-known non-NHL team in the world according to the rankings, but was still only “known nationally”.
21. Yearly records/leaders page/tab for leagues and teams.
22. An easier way to search players who you might want to purchase from other leagues (if in Europe), located in Transactions. “Realistic” free agents are easy to find in the menu tab, but finding players to purchase requires a search, filters, etc.
23. More detail for world team rankings. Why are they in that particular order? Seeing their current win/loss record isn’t as helpful as seeing a reputation score, what trophies they’ve won, how recently they’ve won trophies , etc. The rankings should be filterable, too. In my game, 429 teams are listed, but no university, junior, etc. teams are included, even though in reality, some of them will be more reputable than some of the professional teams on the list. At least all manageable teams should be included.
24. Transparency on league rankings and changes among them.

I think some of these might be possible with updates to FHM9, while others (e.g., women's leagues & competitions) probably require bigger changes for future versions.
