August 8-10, 2050: at Baltimore (3)

Game 1: The Rays' comeback from 5-1 down fell short and they lost 5-4 to the Orioles in the opener at Camden Yards. A key error by Ismael Morales led to 3 unearned runs against Dave Rose (8-8), who finished 5 9 5 2 1 5 and Luis Barela's single-handed effort to bring them back wasn't enough. The superstar 3B drove in all 4 runs on 3 hits including a 2-run HR (#37) in the 6th.

Game 2: Tampa Bay roared back to blow out the Orioles 11-2 in the second game. A 4-run first featured an Alex Duran RBI double, a 2-run Juan Davila homer (#17) and a back-to-back jack from Juan Viatoro (#16). A 5-run 5th really broke it open with back-to-back homers again from Nelson Bocardo (#9) and Jon Morales (#23) and a 2-run Ismael Morales triple. Rex Bransington made it three wins in three starts since joining the Rays after going 5.1 6 2 2 1 4.

Game 3: The Rays took the series by winning a seesaw affair in the finale 6-5. Alex Duran had a big day with a solo homer in the 4th (#14), an RBI triple in the 5th and a run-scoring single in the 7th while Luis Barela homered again (#38) as did Chris Kidd (#4), who got a rare start. Alec McInerney (4-1) wasn't sharp but still got the win after going 5.2 10 4 4 0 2. Steve Tablott earned save #19 despite allowing a solo homer in the 9th.

Team record: 71-45. The Yankees were swept in Oakland, so the Rays have now narrowed the division to lead to a scant 1 1/2 games. Next up: A day off then we return home to face Seattle for 3.
