Last year there were tons of historical and diamond packs as rewards, but the card rewards were generally weak and more for future missions or niche tourney rosters. Personally, I pulled a heck of a lot of junk from the packs, and so I knew that the disparity between myself and some other players was huge.
This year there's been a lot less packs, but the card rewards have fitted much better into the evolution of the card pool. Anyone who played aggressively could make a lot of points from selling cards quickly. The flakier folk, like me, could casually pick 'n mix the reward cards to build and maintain a pretty good roster.
I've run at least one packs-only team for the last three years. The two this year have been easily the most gratifying, particularly in the second half. Even though one team has had a huge amount more pack luck, the other completed some good missions first, so it's been fun.
