April 10-13, 2051: at Minnesota (3)
Game 1: They waited until the 8th to break it open but the Rays took a comfortable 8-3 win over the Twins in the end to make it three straight wins after a miserable 1-7 start. Dantel Chinchilla doubled a drove in a pair while Juan Viatoro was 3-5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI to lead the way. Dave Rose couldn't get the last out he needed for the win, going 4.2 5 3 2 4 4 on 95 pitches and leaving the bases loaded for Steve Kay (1-0), who got him out of it and got the win. Chris Hetzel threw 3 innings of 1-hit relief for his first save.
Game 2: Juan Davila's 4th homer of the year, a solo shot in the 9th, broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Rays their fourth consecutive win 3-2. Davila had earlier doubled in a run and Juan Viatoro's RBI single tied it at 2 in the 7th. Rex Bransington had a good start at 5.1 6 2 2 0 6, Willie Navarro (2-1) picked up the win, and Steve Talbott earned save #2.
Game 3: Luis Barela to the rescue as the Rays completed the sweep, beating Minnesota 10-9 in 11 innings after blowing an 8-1 lead. Juan Davila was 3-5 with HR #5 and 2 RBI and Barela had a 2-run homer to build that 8-1 lead. Chad Winger gave a couple back and finished 5 6 3 3 4 5 but the bullpen lost it over the next four innings with Steve Ravin the biggest culprit, allowing the tying 3 runs. But Barela stepped up in the 11th and went yard again with a man on for his 4th homer. Steve Talbott (1-0) had pitched the 10th and got the win, staying on for the 11th and giving up an unearned run of his own.
Team record: 6-7. The Yankees finally lost a game but are still 12-1. Next up: A day off then 3 more road games in Baltimore.
