Game 1: The bullpen blew another late lead but the offense picked them up as the Rays made it 6 straight wins and got back to .500 with an 8-6 win at Oriole Park. Alex Duran's sac fly and Juan Viatoro's RBI single against his old team broke a 6-6 tie in the 9th, allowing Kevin Leonard (1-0) to vulture a win after losing a 6-5 lead in the 8th. Steve Kay picked up his first Rays save in the 9th. Earlier they got a mediocre start from Steve Morris (6 7 5 5 0 2, 3 HR) and a grand slam from Beau Bonczek (#2).
Game 2: The Rays broke open a game they led 3-1 with 8 runs in the 6th and went on to a 13-5 rout of the Orioles to run their win streak to 7. Alex Duran had a massive game, going 4-6 with a double, 2 homers (#2 & 3) and 4 RBI, Juan Viatoro was 4-5 with two doubles and a 2-run homer (#3), and Dantel Chinchilla had a big 2-run double in that 6th. That was more than enough for Jimmy Bernal to record his first win as a Ray after going 5.1 4 2 1 5 1.
Game 3: Tampa Bay completed the sweep and made it 8 straight wins as Dave Rose pitched well and they took a 6-1 victory in Baltimore. Rose (1-1) went 6 7 1 1 2 7 and looked more like the ace we thought he was after three rough outings to start the season. Juan Davila was 4-4 with an RBI triple, David Morales had a 2-run single and Jon McGovern was on base three times and scored three runs to lead the offense.
Team record: 9-7. The Yankees are ridiculous, sweeping the Jays and going to 15-1. Still a lot of season to go however. Next up: Our seemingly never-ending road run to start the year concludes with 3 in Cleveland.
Also old friend Greg Bookhart is not off to a good start with Boston - after getting hit hard in his debut start he's now out with a herniated disc.
