I have had games called after a rain delay, but it is rare. As IRL, the fields drain better, weather info has improved, so if they start a game, they expect to finish, even if showers roll through.

MLB has moved to calling games early. Just last week, the Phillies postponed their home opener from Thursday afternoon, which ended up warm and mostly sunny, to Friday, which was raw and cold. They got bad information on the timing of storms.

I like OOTP describing a threat of rain as the game starts. I only wish I could have that weather information beforehand. I would consider passing over my ace, if it looked like he might not get to pitch a “full” game, or effectively lose a start. I’m not a fan o bullpen games; but, with the threat of interruption, a bullpen game actually makes sense.

Another consideration is what effect a rain delay has on the pitchers. A delay of an hour or more should make it tough for the guys who were pitching and sat for an hour to get loose and return to the game. At the very least, they should be affected by “fatigue” in the sense of downgraded effectiveness. At worst, the injury risk should increase, as arms do not react well to that long at rest and then throwing hard.
