Chicago put CF Richie Ashburn on the trading block. He's older than CF Bill Virdon and makes more money and is a FA after the season but he provides better offense than Virdon while an almost equal defense.

Obtained CF Richie Ashburn age 34 3.0 stars for CF Bill Virdon age 29 2.5 stars and age 21 0.5 star 1.5 potential minor leaguer Pat Owens.

While the offense could use some help what needs more help is defense. It's making the pitching look worse than it is. Ashburn is a small step in the wrong direction for the defense but a bigger step in the right direction for offense. The fans liked the trade.
