So I went looking for an instance where a batter pitched. I found a Williams Astudillo one, but he came off the bench. The next I found was Mike Freeman for the Reds against the Phillies on June 1, 2021. He didn't start the game in the field, but he did come in to play SS in the 5th and switched to pitcher in the 9th. So my original idea should have worked and so should this last one. I'll try it again...
Nope, it won't do it. And that's regardless of whether the team is on offense or defense when you try to do it. And it doesn't matter if the player is the DH or playing some other position. You can't bring any fielder in to pitch if they're already in the game.
Can someone else try? Maybe there's just a certain way to do it that I'm just not doing.

You can do it by changing the DH to the blank position, where it will pop up with a box saying you will lose the DH for the remainder of the game. At that point, you can switch them (or anyone else) to be the new pitcher (you can only do that when your team is pitching - you can't change pitchers when you're at-bat).
