Cards news: July 28 -- Deal sends Carlson to D'backs for Carroll
The St. Louis Cardinals have completed deal sending outfielder Dylan Carlson and minor-league starting pitcher Yordy Rodriguez to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for outfielder Corbin Carroll.
Once the team's top prospect, Carlson has seen his performance dwindle over the past three seasons, in 2023 the 26year-old switch hitter hit .245 with 10 homers and 92 RBIs.
The 2024 season saw Carlson hit .229 with 19 homers and 63 RBIs.
In 72 games this season, he has hit just .202 with eight homers and 26 RBIs.
In Carroll, St. Louis acquires a 24-year-old outfielder who led the National League in steals in 2024 with 37.
This season, Carroll is hitting .248 with eight homers and 43 RBIs in 97 games/94 starts. He also has stolen 28 bases.
Signed by St. Louis as an international free agent in 2019, Rodriguez has spent most of the 2025 season at AAA Memphis where he has posted a 7-8 record with a 5.11 ERA in 19 starts.
He did make one start for the Cardinals, getting battered for seven hits (three homers) in just 3.2 innings.
