Trade Alert!

This one is big enough to warrant its own post:

Never let it be said we didn't go for it this year. Riley Greene is one of the league's top players, a 75 defender in RF who's won the Gold Glove each of the previous two seasons, and a deadly hitter who's hitting 293/361/547 with 18 HR and 40 RBI in half a season so far and who averaged 25 HR and 85 RBI the previous two years. After 4.0 and 4.5 WAR seasons he's on pace for 6 this year. Of course Detroit was willing to move Greene since he's a free agent this winter and they haven't been able to work out an extension. We give up a really good prospect in Saenz, who's 17 and far away from the majors but profiles as a top leadoff hitter with 75 speed, contact, gap and avoid Ks potential (but not much power). de Anda was a supplemental 1st rounder in 2025 who has struggled at all stops in the minors but still has 50/40/60 potential as a starter.

The Greene acquisition will set off a domino effect on the lineup with him taking Max Viera's spot against righties with Caminero going from DH to 1B, Ozzie Albies back to 2B, James Wood moving to LF and Natanael Santana becoming the DH. Against lefties we'll play the lineup we've been playing except Greene will take Fu-Chi Chin's RF platoon spot with Wood. To make room on the active roster Lonnie White was optioned to Durham as he just never hit when getting the chance to play, and to make room on the 40-man pitcher Yoniel Curet was DFA'd. Hopefully Greene can duplicate his first half and give us another 3 wins as that could be critical in this race with the Jays.
