Ha ha! I had the
exact same urge last night, only in the first inning! And I indulged it, as soon as that guy hit his grand slam.
Wife was surprised; this was one of her moral superiority episodes in which I was to have gratitude for being allowed to watch sports instead of dress shows and such.
I explained to her that, over the years, fans can acquire intuition about the fates of their teams given things like:
- How the team has been playing recently.
- Certain trends like, as in this case, starting pitching has stunk.
- How well the other team has been playing recently.
I told her that, in my opinion, I am good for about 80% accuracy when I get that feeling, and the TV screen goes dark at that point. Not usually in the first inning, I will grant you, but I had that
feeling strong last night.
When I saw the final score later, I congratulated myself.
