August 4-6, 2051: at LA Angels (3)

Game 1: Alec McInerney didn't have it today and he put the Rays in an early 6-0 hole that they nearly came back from, falling 6-4 to the Angels in the opener in Anaheim. McInerney (6-1) suffered his first loss of 2051, allowing a pair of 2-run homers in the first and finishing a rough 2.1 6 6 6 2 1. The pen did a fine job keeping the Angels at 6 and homers from Luis Barela (#34), Ezequiel Avalos (his first as a Ray and 5th overall) and Jon Morales (#30) got them back into it but they still fell short.

Game 2: Rinse and repeat as another Rays lefty starter wasn't effective and they dropped another to the Angels 5-2. Steve Morris (12-4) wasn't as bad as McInerney yesterday but he wasn't good either, going 4.2 4 4 4 2 4. And just like yesterday Luis Barela (#35) and Ezequiel Avalos (#2/6) homered again in a losing cause. Keeping Tampa Bay bats in check for LA today was former Ray Joel Gird.

Game 3: The Rays avoided a sweep thanks to an 8-1 drubbing of LA in the finale behind a standout Dave Rose performance. The Rays' ace righty improved to 14-3 after going 5.2 2 1 1 3 7 and he had plenty of supporting starting with Beau Bonczek's 3-run homer (#26) in the first inning. And for the third straight day Luis Barela (#36) and Ezequiel Avalos (#3/7) homered with each knocking in a pair.

Team record: 83-29. Next up: Back home for 3 vs Oakland against an A's team which is tied with Seattle for the AL West lead at 60-52.
