After leading by as many as five in May the Pirates start June 1/2 a game out. A 16-13 May wasn't enough to keep the team in first place.

Based a toss up in ratings versus Don Hoak but better performance Gilbert Watts is making two of three starts at third base. With a similar situation on ratings and performance Wally Post and Donn Clendenon are now sharing LF. Clendenon starts at home and Post on the road. The idea is that Clendenon's better BA and OBP is better suited to Forbes Field than Post's HR power while Post's talents hold the edge on the road.
