This wasn't in the script...
After last night's tough loss surely the ship would be righted with
Joe Marlette on the mound, right? After all he hadn't lost a game all season, setting an MLB W/L record in the process. Well, after Marlette had his start pushed back to Game 4 for a stomach bug it was the Rays' fan base feeling queasy after the lefty was knocked around for 6 runs in 3 2/3 innings and the Rays couldn't quite complete the comeback in a 7-6 loss that sends them one loss away from losing the World Series. It really was stunning to see them down 5-1 after 3 innings, and while they nearly pulled off another comeback when
Orlando Tosado (who's having a helluva series) doubled in 2 runs to cut the Miami lead to 7-6 with 2 out in the 9th, they fell just short. Aside from Marlette another culprit is their longtime slugger
Kelly Crumpton, who isn't doing any slugging at all, 0 for 17 in this series and killing rally after rally. In fact going back to the ALCS he's 0 for his last 24. Do we sit him and maybe go with the rookie
Joe Stack tomorrow? Stay tuned. One guy we do know will be starting is
Kevin DiCostanzo, who will need to improve on his erratic postseason since coming back from injury if the Rays want to have any chance of keeping their season alive.
