MLB news: Sept. 20 -- Giants are second team to clinch postseason berth
The San Francisco Giants may be sitting in second place in the National League West behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, but that didn't prevent them from being the second team to clinch a berth in the 2025 postseason.
With a 6-2 win over the San Diego Padres on Friday, Sept. 20, the Giants improved to 91-57 and ensured themselves a probable wild-card berth in the NL playoffs.
The Giants sit four games behind the Dodgers with 14 games left in the regular season.
The second-best wild-card record in the NL belongs to the Arizona Diamondbacks at 79-69.
The playoff berth is the second in a row for San Francisco.
It also made the postseason as a wild card in 2024.
