MLB news: Sept. 23 -- Guardians wrap up AL Central crown
The Cleveland Guardians became the first American League team to clinch a postseason berth as they wrapped up the AL Central crown with a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers.
The Indians (95-56) lead the Minnesota Twins in their division by 12 games with 11 games left in the season.
They also lead the AL race for the best overall record by seven games over AL East leading Toronto.
With a 97-55 mark, the Los Angeles Dodgers have the best record in MLB.
The playoff berth is the fourth in a row for the Guardians.
Cleveland has reached the postseason seven times in the last nine seasons.
