April 5-6, 2034: vs NY Yankees (2)
Rays took both games of their mini-set with the Yankees and now have won three straight.
Tampa Bay had three big homers in the opener to lead them to a 6-4 win over the Yankees at Tropicana Field. After Arturo Gutierrez got them on the board leading off the game, Wander Franco had a solo shot in the 4th to tie it and later in the inning rookie Joe Stack homered again with a man on to put them up 4-2. It was the first homer of the year for Gutierrez and Franco and the second in three games for Stack. William Contreras added a 2-run single in the 6th and it turned out to be the difference. Chris Ferguson won his first 2034 start going 6.1 5 3 3 3 4 and Mike Moore earned his first save.
Joe Stack can't stop homering and Ethan McElvain was excellent in his season debut as the Rays took both games of the series with New York after a 6-2 win. Stack hit his third in the 2nd inning to break a 1-1 tie and Arturo Gutierrez broke it open with a 3-run shot (#2) in the 4th. McElvain meanwhile was a fine 7 4 2 2 1 5 for the victory.
Team record: 3-1. Next up: Houston visits for 3 games.
MLB News: Old friend Kelly Crumpton is off to a good start with the Jays and hit a 3-run walk-off homer to lead them to victory yesterday. He also can pitch although rarely did for us but the Jays have put him in their rotation and he went 6 innings and allowed only a run a couple of games ago.
