Cards news: June 19 -- Switch made at hitting coach as Nick Evans is hired
The St. Louis Cardinals have announced Nick Evans as their hitting coach.
He replaces Jing-Bo Hsiao, who took over the role during the 2025 season and through the first 69 games of this season.
Evans,
Hsiao, 60, supervised the St. Louis hitters over the final 121 games of last season and through their run to the team's 12th World Series title.
But the team only hit .221 over that span and led all of MLB with strikeouts.
Things have not been much better this season, as the Cardinals team batting average of .229 is the lowest in the sport. Their 743 strikeouts are also 39 more than Cincinnati's, who ranks second.
Evans, 40, has never been a hitting coach at the major league level.
He spent three seasons with AAA Reno, during which the Aces hit .270 (2023), .300 (2024) and .302 (2025).
