Elnora Salvages Game 3, Wiggles By Vipers 8-7
It was almost do or die for the Elnora All-Stars... they badly needed to win game three of the RU Final 4 with Valmara and the All-Stars did it... Elnora escaped with an 8-7 victory to cut the Vipers lead in the series to two games to one... It was Leon Carter's solo smash in the top of the ninth that put the All-Stars ahead 8-6 and they managed to survive Valmara's ninth-inning rally... Carter (.323) led Elnora with 3 hits and 3 RBIs... RF Travis Glass (.324) provided 2 RBIs and CF Charley Beard (.263) had two hits and scored twice... 2023 IPA Final 4 Series - Game 5

Valmara Pro Bowl Bound
After 20 years of frustration and failure, the Valmara Vipers will get another chance for a Pro Cup, symbolic of pro baseball supremacy in Islandia... Billy Ray pitched a whale of a game, stopping Elnora 2-1 in game five of the Ruthlandian Final 4 Series to take the series four games to one and advance to the IPA Pro Cup Finals... Ray (20-11 2.21) was obtained in a trade with the Beechwood Bobcats and the stubby 30-year-old right-hander has made a huge difference in his first season with the Vipers and was one of the main reasons they made the playoffs... in the playoffs Ray (4-0 1.36) has been even better... he worked 8 strong innings for the win, yielded 5 hits and a run with 5 strikeouts and 5 walks... closer Chris Phillips got his 3rd postseason save with a scoreless ninth... LF Sonny Oliver (.282) saved the day for Valmara with a 2-run double in the last of the eighth that wiped out a 1-0 Elnora lead... Will Hamilton (1-3 2.03) pitched very well, too, but suffered another hard-luck loss... Hamilton held Valmara to 5 hits and 2 runs with 5 Ks and 4 walks... in the top of the eighth, the All-Stars broke the scoreless tie when 2B Michael Griffin worked Ray for a bases-load base on balls... but Hamilton couldn't hold it... Valmara last played in the Pro Cup in 2003, when they were swept by the Turon Typhoons... the Vipers will meet the winner of the Tuckanarra-White River series.

Tucks Take Rascals In 5, Play V's In Pro Cup

Gene O'Reilly recorded his 2nd save by retiring the Rascals in order in the last of the ninth... Tuckanarra starter Glynn Starr gave them 7 good innings, holding White River to 5 hits and 2 runs with 5 strikeouts and no walks... Don French started for the Rascals, but left early because of a long rain delay... French pitched 4 and two-thirds innings, gave up 2 runs and 3 hits with 4 Ks and 2 walks... the teams were tied 2-2 when French left the game... White River took an early lead on a double by Kenneth Kent (.278) in the top of the second frame... Kent went to third on a ground-out and scored when 2B Vinny Uhrich (.200) grounded out to second base... Tuckanarra took a 2-1 lead on 3B Koora Nawajuk's (.290) 2-run double in the bottom half of the inning... in the fourth the Rascals evened the score at 2-2 when RF Hal Littleton (.318) doubled and scored on catcher P. J. Blake's (.297) two-bagger... the top-seeded Blue Jays will be challenged by the eighth-seeded Valmara Vipers, who have come into their own in the postseason... the Pro Cup Finals will get underway Tuesday afternoon at Central Park Stadium in Tuckanarra... the Blue Jays have played in only one Pro Cup and lost it in a sweep to the powerful Far Mountain Redhawks in 2012... the Redhawks won the Island championship three years running 2011-2013.
