The St. Louis Cardinals have placed right-handed pitcher Yonny Chirinos after he suffered back tightness following an outing in a 10-5 win over the Oakland Athletics on August 17.
Chirinos, 32, who has spent time as both a starter and reliever this season has gone 6-6 with five saves in 37 games/six starts.
He is expected to be out for up to two weeks.
Being recalled from AAA Memphis is left-handed reliever Garrett Williams.
Williams, 31, was sent to the minors earlier this month after appearing in 41 games with the Cardinals.
In those games, he went 1-4 with one save and a 4.28 ERA.
Williams pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in his only appearance for Memphis on August 13.
