Game 70: St. Louis Browns vs. Boston Americans
Boston (52-18) jumped out to a quick 6 to 0 lead after the 1st inning and cruised to a 9 to 1 victory over St. Louis (30-40).
The ageless Cy Young (13-3) continues to baffle the opposition as he allowed just 1 earned run on 4 hits, striking out 7 for a Game Score of 82. Tom Hughes (7-9) was tagged with the loss after giving up 9 runs (2 earned) on 10 hits, 3 walks, 1 hit batsman over 5 1/3 innings for a Game Score of 28. Jack Sutthoff covered the final 2 2/3 innings without allowing a run.
The Americans were led at the plate by John Farrell (4 for 4, 1 Run, 3 RBIs), Jesse Hoffmeister (2 for 4, 2 Runs, 1 RBI), Frank Chance (2 for 4, Double, 1 Run), and Jiggs Donahue (1 for 3, Double, 2 Runs, 1 RBI, and 1 Walk). Overall, the Browns were lifeless at the plate -- nice job Cy!
Player of the Game: Cy Young (Season: #7 / Career: #24)
