MLB news: Oct. 5 -- Tie-breaker gives Arizona final NL Wild-Card
A 5-4 win over the Houston Astros left the Arizona Diamondbacks tied with the St. Louis Cardinals for the final National League Wild-Card berth.
But a 4-2 season-series advantage, the D-backs swept a three-game series at home in April, sent Arizona into the postseason as a wild card for the second straight season.
The D'backs (86-76) finished second in the NL West Division, eight games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Arizona will match up with the Dodgers in a best-of-three NL Wild-Card series.
Arizona has only reached the World Series one time, in 2001 when it upset the New York Yankees.
