The Kansas City Royals took home their first World Series title in dramatic fashion coming back from an 0-3 deficit over the Phillies. The Phillies rolled in the first three games outscoring the Royals 25-9 but the tide turned in a marathon game 4.
Philadelphia starter Frank Tanana did everything he could to bring home the title in game 4 throwing 147 pitches over 14 innings, striking out 8, allowing just 4 hits and not walking anyone. But Warren Cromartie tied the game at 1 in the 7th with a solo hr and 5 Royal pitchers allowed only 8 hits total as the Royals took game 4 6-1 in 16 innings.
After that, the Royals took games 5,6 and 7 outscoring the Phils 21-10 and the dynasty that Philadelphia fans thought they had in their grasp slipped away.
Bob Horner won the AL MVP with 39 HR .320/.370/.556 and free agent Fred Lynn won his 2nd MVP with Montreal with 30 HR .336/.413/.572.
Robert Elliott won his 5th!!!! Cy Young with the Yankees with 18-8 3.14 ERA and Frank Tanana won his 1st with 20-9 2.90 ERA.
Rich Rodas won NL Rookie of the Year with 15-14 and a 3.46 ERA with the Phillies and Chili Davis won the AL award at catcher for the White Sox hitting 19 HR .319/.361/.508
I am going to go after Fred Lynn with all I have in free agency, I am going to make deals to get my team back in the playoffs.
