Blockbuster trade as Lightning load up early

The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired D Dan Boyle and F Derek Stepan from the Rangers in exchange for prospect D Tony DeAngelo, prospect F Brayden Point and Tampa Bay's 2016 first round pick. Boyle spent six years in his prime playing for Tampa, and they are chasing the Red Wings and Bruins in the very competitive Atlantic Division. GM Steve Yzerman wants to win now, and makes a massive splash early, moving out prized prospects Brayden Point and Tony DeAngelo, both expected to be top 6/top 4 pieces in the future, if not top line/pairing. Yzerman also added next year's pick, but secures 24 year old Stepan just entering his prime to alleviate the lost futures. It looks to be an overpay by Tampa, but neither of the teenagers they traded are going to impact this year's run. We think the Rangers win this deal long term, but the Lightning did well to acquire Stepan, who should be a long term piece for them while also being impactful this year, along with the win now addition of 38 year old Dan Boyle to fill a big hole on the right side of their blueline.
