October 8, 2034: ALDS Game 2 & NLDS Game 1

Live by the homer...

Rays pitching couldn't keep the ball in the park and the Yankees evened up the best-of-5 series at a game apiece with a 6-5 win in extras. Drew Romo, who hit .216 this year, killed the Rays again with a pair of homers including the winner in the 11th off Nathan Dettmer, who now has decisions in both games this series. The problems started early when Kevin DiCostanzo gave up 5 runs on 3 homers in the first 3 innings but the Rays fought back with a pair of big blows of their own: Bobby Marin's 3-run shot in the 2nd and a dramatic 2-run blast from Wander Franco in the 8th to tie it as all 11 runs in this game came via the longball. Danny Morales will get the ball at Yankee Stadium in two days to try to restore the series lead for the Rays.

Texas is one game away from the ALCS while the road teams took the advantage in the NL with a couple of former Rays pitchers involved. Tommy Burpee, in our bullpen the previous few years, had a rough season in Chicago's rotation (5.67 ERA, 32 HR allowed) but came through with 6 scoreless innings in Memphis while serial Cy Young winner for Tampa Bay in the late 20s/early 30s James Hays was on the wrong end of things for the Dodgers.
