Back on track...
The Rays brought the lumber to New York, scoring early and often before holding on for a 7-4 win over the Yankees to go up 2-1 in the ALDS. A trio of homers had them up 7-1 (they actually even scored a run that wasn't via the homer with a
Danny Arroyave RBI single) and
Danny Morales was very effective for 6 innings. But hopes they could close out the game while saving the "A" pen were dashed when
Frankely Guzman got hurt in the 7th and an unprepared
Slade Cecconi allowed 3 runs to score to make it fairly close. And
Mike Moore put 2 on in the 9th with the dangerous lefty hitter Sergio Guajardo due, so
Matt Cronin was summoned and got Guajarado to ground out to end it.
Chris Ferguson will now have the chance to close out the series tomorrow.
Meanwhile Oakland stays alive in the other ALDS:
Former Rays 2026 2nd round pick Josh Baggett has homered in all three games of this series.
