Canucks get ahead of offseason with some key contract extensions

Trevor Linden took care of some business with upcoming contracts, signing Ryan Stanton, Chris Tanev, Brad Richardson and Jacob Markstrom to extensions. Minor league forward Ronalds Kenins was also extended.

The 25 year old Stanton has played in 31 games this season and looks to be on the way to establishing himself as an NHLer. He is +9 in those games and has been reliable, if not flashy. His extension is rumoured to be for two years at a reasonable $600k.

Chris Tanev has really come into his own at 25, heading up Vancouver's top pairing alongside Dan Hamhuis consistently. They have been the one constant on Dale Hunter's constantly rotating blueline. Tanev has a respectable 13 points and is +5 while playing some of the toughest minutes every night and leading the team in blocked shots. He was extended for three years for an AAV of $2 Million.

Brad Richardson has been a responsible and versatile veteran presence holding down that checking line role alongside Zack Kassian and a rotation of left side wingers that includes Higgins, Matthias and even Daniel Sedin at times. He signed for three more seasons for $1.2 Million per year. Trevor said, "We appreciate Brad's character and his contribution to our team both on and off the ice. We look forward to having him here the next three years to continue mentoring our young forwards and leading by example."

Linden bet big on young, unproven netminder Jacob Markstrom's sky high potential, locking him up for five seasons at $2 Million per. In four starts this season Markstrom is undefeated and sporting an impressive .943 save percentage and a shutout. His potential is the reason Vancouver moved on from Eddie Lack earlier this year, and they committed to him financially as their goalie of the future.
