Bench was hitting .240 for the Giants and in the 15 games for us, he's gone .333/.420/.617 with 4 hr's and 11 RBI. He really helped up finish July strong, we went 18-10 and have a 3 game lead over both the A's and Royals. 4th in runs, 1st in runs allowed, 2nd in HR and 3rd in defensive efficiency has made me happy to have built a well balanced team, at least for this season.
Blyleven is back to earth, but the rest of the staff has been quite good. I decided to stand pat after the Bench trade, so the deadline is past and this is the club we have.
The Red Sox have a 4 game lead over Milwaukee, St Louis and Pittsburgh are tied in the NL East with the Phillies 1/2 game out and the Mets just 3 1/2 back, while in the west the Braves are 16 games up and cruising to a division title.
