Game 106: Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Americans

A hitting-attack that was firing on all cylinders today, as the Boston Americans (73-33) trounced the Chicago White Sox (44-62) by a score of 18 to 5.

Sam Leever (18-6) was the beneficiary of the offense, picking up the win after allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits and 1 walk to finish with a Game Score of 58. Brickyard Kennedy (12-15) lasted just 4 2/3 innings before he left the game after allowing 9 runs (8 earned) on 13 hits, 1 walk, and 1 wild pitch; Game Score of 3. Bock Baker pitched 2/3 innings of relief but was yanked after giving up 7 runs (4 earned) on 3 hits, 3 walks, and 1 hit batsman. Bob Dresser covered the final 2 2/3 innings by allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits, 1 walk, and 1 hit batsman. A rough pitching day for the White Sox!

With 20 hits (3 for extra bases), 5 walks, and 2 hit batsmen, you know there are multiple offensive performances worth mentioning. In fact, all 9 starters had a least 1 base hit and got on base at least 2 times today. Bill Lange (4 for 5, Double, 3 Runs, 3 RBIs, 1 Walk), Chick Stahl (3 for 6, 4 RBIs), Dave Brain (3 for 5, Double, 3 Runs, 1 RBI, 1 Walk), Jiggs Donahue (2 for 5, 3 Runs, 2 RBIs, 1 Stolen Base), and Kid Elberfeld (1 for 3, 3 Runs, 1 RBI, 2 Walks) played outstanding. George Treadway (3 for 4, Triple, 1 Run, 1 RBI) and Hughie Jennings (2 for 4, 1 Run, 1 RBI) played well in the loss.

Player of the Game: Bill Lange (Season: #1 / Career: #2)
