St. Louis Makes Deal with Philadelphia
With just 4 days left before the trading deadline, teams are actively wheeling and dealing. In the latest move, the St. Louis Cardinals reached agreement to send catcher Bill Bergen and pitcher Buck Hooker to the Philadelphia Athletics in exchange for pitcher Doc McJames.
Not sure what the Cardinals see in McJames (MLB: 1-2 record with 6.25 ERA and -0.3 WAR), as I think the Athletics are getting a steal here with Bergen (Double-A slash of .282/.340/.398 -- 124 OPS+ 4.1 WAR) and Hooker (MLB: 13-11 record with 2.66 ERA and 2.3 WAR). Moreover, Hooker has allowed just 1 earned run in his last 26 2/3 innings pitched and was named the National League Player of the Week on the day he was traded.
