April 24-26, 2035: vs Baltimore (3)
A series sweep for the Rays, although they had to come back and win a couple late in extras.
The opener was wildest game of the bunch, as Luis Berumen's 3-run homer (#7) in the bottom of the 8th tied it up after Baltimore scored 3 times in the top of the frame and Danny Charlton's RBI single in the 12th walked it off for an 8-7 win. Bobby Marin hit a 3-run homer (#6) in the 2nd to cap a 4-run inning but Baltimore came back to tie it off Chris Ferguson, who finished 6.1 5 4 4 2 7. Ruben Abeyta (1-0) got the win in relief.
Jake Westfall and Joe Scheu had nice games as seven different Rays drove in a run in a 7-3 win over the Orioles in the second game. Westfall hit HR #5 in the first, singled, walked twice, and scored three runs to lead the offense while Scheu (3-1) was in good form at 6.1 8 2 2 0 7.
Journeyman righty Chris DeYoe held the Rays to one hit through 8 innings and Baltimore took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the 9th but Tampa Bay loaded the bases off the Oriole bullpen and with two out Joe Stack delivered a 2-run single to send us to extras, where Justin Blackwell walked it off with a solo homer (#4) in the bottom of the 10th to give them a 3-2 win. Blackwell had been in a prolonged slump and was given the day off before he entered late after Mu-Sang Park was pinch-hit for in the 9th. Kevin DiCostanzo had a good start at 6 4 1 1 4 6 and was thankfully spared a tough-luck loss.
Team record: 13-9. We're still 1/2 game behind Toronto which also swept their series but now in 2nd with a little distance between the Yankees and Red Sox who beat up on each other. Next up: Kansas City comes to town for 3.
