The Rays made it 8 straight wins after sweeping the Royals, blowing them out three times by a combined score of 28-7.
Transaction: Danny Arroyave finally rejoins the Rays after his spring training injury and Claus Hoppenbrouwers, who was impressive in his 3 1/2-week stint, goes to Durham to play every day.
Danny Morales was sharp and the offense banged out 16 hits in 8-1 romp over the Royals in the opener. Morales (3-1) went 6 6 1 1 1 4 for the win and had plenty of support. Alex Rivas was 4-5 and scored 3 runs, Danny Arroyave made an instant impact going 2-4 with 3 RBI, Wander Franco was 3-4 with 2 knocked in and Luis Berumen doubled twice and drove in a pair.
The Royals were in the second game - for a while. It was 3-3 going into the bottom of the 6th before the Rays put up a 5-spot and went on to crush Kansas City 13-4. The big blow in the inning was a 3-run Bobby Marin homer (#7), one of his 3 hits on the day. Earlier Danny Charlton hit a 2-run shot in the 1st, his 4th of the season and first since his early-season 3-homer game and Justin Blackwell went deep with #5 as he had three hits as well. Joe Marlette started and went 5.2 3 3 3 2 6 but just missed out on the win which instead went to Ruben Abeyta (2-0).
Chris Ferguson was outstanding and the Rays completed the sweep with another easy win 7-2. Ferguson (2-1) was dominant in going 7.2 3 0 0 1 10 and his mates broke it open with a 6-run 4th highlighted by a 2-run Willie Gutierrez homer (#2). Danny Arroyave tied a club record with a pair of triples, driving in two, and Danny Charlton was 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Arroyave ended up 6-13 with 6 RBI in this series, his first three games back from injury.
Team record: 16-9. So did we make up the 1/2-game deficit with Toronto? Nope, they swept their series as well. Next up: An off-day to make the longest flight in MLB to Seattle for 3 games against the 14-10 Mariners.
