Cards news: August 9 -- Kiner-Falefa agrees to one-year extension
The St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to a one-year extension with infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa.
Signed as a free-agent in the off-season, Kiner-Falefa, 32, has performed well for the Cardinals in 2027
He has played in 79 games/76 starts and hit .291 with two home runs and 30 RBIs.
Expected to play a utility role, Kiner-Falefa has probably seen more starts than expected due to his ability to play second base, third base and shortstop.
He is currently the team's starting shortstop.
Kiner-Falefa broke into the majors with the Texas Rangers in 2018.
He also has played for the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Angels and Kansas City Royals.
KC was his final stop before signing with the Cardinals in the offseason.
In 793 major league games/553 starts, Kiner-Falefa is a .266 hitter with 27 career homers and 240 RBIs.
Kiner-Falefa signed with the Cardinals for $1.6 million this season. He will make $2.75 million in 2028.
