Bert Blyleven had 2 seasons this year:
1st half, he was Bob Gibson 13-3 1.23 ERA
2nd half, he was Sideshow Bob 7-6 4.51 ERA
So I didn't know if he was going to start a 3rd season in game 1. 120 pitches and a 6-hit shutout later, I think I know. We took game 1 in Boston 1-0 as we scratched out a run in the top of the 9 off Rollie Fingers to break up a very well pitched game started by Len Barker and Blyleven.
Bake McBride, playing for injured Reggie Smith, blooped a 2-out hit in the 9th. He stole 2nd and scored on a Rodney Scott double. Blyleven had an easy 1-2-3 9th and we took a huge step to the World Series. Game 2 will see Floyd Bannister face Tom Hume.
