2015 NHL PLAYOFFS
Round 3 Summary
Chicago handled
Minnesota with ease, completing the sweep with a game four shutout and never trailing in the series.
Minnesota crumbled on its first real test, but it's hard to blame them for collapsing to the juggernaut
Blackhawks. The trio of
Toews,
Kane and
Saad played well and in the closest game of the series, game 3, they each scored a goal as the
Hawks won 3-2.
Chicago should go into the Stanley Cup Finals as a favourite, however they will face probably the best team they have yet.
Detroit went to seven games with Pittsburgh, a second straight seven game series but this time their luck ran out in game seven.
Howard allowed four goals on his first eight shots before being pulled for backup
Jonas Gustavsson who was perfect but the offense couldn't quite make up the deficit in spite of
Datsyuk putting the team on his back with a hat trick.
Detroit is stunned. They are eliminated one game shy of the Cup finals, in spite of having all five of the top playoff scorers. The other remarkable story line in this series was that in game 2, when Pittsburgh was being blown out,
Marc-Andre Fleury was replaced with backup
Thomas Greiss -
Mike Johnston stuck with
Greiss the rest of the series and was rewarded with a Cup Final berth. Will he continue to go with the hot hand in the Finals, or will veteran and incumbent starter
Fleury get another chance on hockey's biggest stage?
