Cards news: Sept. 6 -- Matos recalled from AAA Memphis; McGreevy returns to Redbirds
With a series coming up against the NL Central-leading Cincinnati Reds, the St. Louis Cardinals have recalled right-handed pitcher David Matos from AAA Memphis where he was on an injury rehab.
The series will be played in St. Louis. The Reds lead the Cardinals by 2.5 games in the NL Central standings.
Matos, 27, has not pitched in the majors since June 27 when he suffered a strained hamstring during a 5-3 win over the Washington Nationals.
The right-hander was 8-4 with a 2.76 ERA at the time of the injury.
Matos made a rehab start at Memphis on Sept. 1 earning a win by going seven innings, allowing three runs on nine hits, in a 6-3 over Gwinnett.
Going to AAA will be 27-year-old right-hander Michael McGreevy.
Playing in the majors for the first time, McGreevy made 15 starts going 5-3 with a 3.92 ERA.
