Canucks announce changes behind the bench, new hire on the eve of Entry Draft
To the surprise of no-one,
Dan Bylsma was officially announced as the new bench boss of the Vancouver Canucks today. Bylsma spent last season as an assistant working with Dale Hunter, so his familiarity should make the transition a smooth one. He has plenty of experience as an NHL head coach, and won the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Trevor Linden commented,
"working with Dan has been a pleasure this past year, and we look forward to working closely with him as we construct a roster for this next season that we expect to be competitive, and we are confident he is the man to instill a winning culture in this team going forward."
The Vancouver Canucks also hired
Bob Boughner to be an assistant coach. Boughner spent 12 seasons in the NHL as a defenseman, playing in 630 games. After his playing days were over he started coaching the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL. Under his guidance they won back to back Memorial Cups in 2009 and 2010. He will be responsible for running the defense.
