I was pretty shocked to see suggestions he was/might be on the block. It would be entirely Metsy to let the only real slugger they've ever produced go across town to do the same thing for another decade. That might be my breaking point, and honestly MLB/the Mets haven't exactly kept me riveted this year with perpetual interleague.
That threat passed, unless they tried to peddle him over the winter. But Pete has looked pretty salty to me, and some of the high fives in the dugout with the other survivors looked like they were salty too. I hope Cohen and Buck had the sense to talk to Pete beforehand, although news reports sound like that didn't happen. A team meeting to say "we're trying to get better for next year" and "we wanted to get the 35+ guys out of here [in a way that doesn't violate state and federal laws]" would be in order, hopefully they thought of that too.
In conclusion, I'm thrilled they shot this broken horse of a season and shipped out the geezers/evaporating contracts, and if Pete is traded maybe there's no point to this modern MLB at all.
