MLB news: Sept. 27 -- Reds capture second straight NL Central title
A 7-1 victory over the Washington Nationals sewed up a second consecutive National League Central Division championship for the Cincinnati Reds.
At 95-61, the Reds sit seven games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals with six games left in the regular season.
Cincinnati will be the second seed in the upcoming NL playoffs, giving them a first-round bye.
Atlanta has already sewn up the overall top seed with its 101-55 record.
The Reds also won the NL Central in 2026. They last reached the World Series in 1991, when they swept the heavily-favored Oakland Athletics.
