MLB news: Oct. 1 -- Orioles back in playoffs for first time since 2016
A 7-1 win over the New York Yankees allowed the Baltimore Orioles to clinch an American League wild-card berth, their first postseason appearance since 2016.
The Orioles (81-78) sit at second place in the AL East Division, eight games behind the Toronto Blue Jays with three games left in the season.
Baltimore is in second place in the AL wild-card standings, some three games behind Houston and 3.5 ahead of Boston.
The Orioles last made the World Series in 1983, when they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies.
