May 23-25, 2053: vs Baltimore (3)

Game 1: Dave Rose was brilliant and the Rays took a 3-0 win in the opener over the Orioles at Publix Park. Rose won his third straight start to get to 3-4 after going 7 4 0 0 2 6 and lowering his ERA to 3.58. Steve Talbott finished up for his 10th save the offense came via RBI singles from Sung-min Yang, David Morales and Alex Brown.

Game 2: Vinny Miranda picked up his first Rays win as Tampa Bay beat Baltimore again 4-1 and made it 7 straight wins. Miranda went 5.2 5 1 0 1 3 in winning for the first time in four starts since coming over from Oakland but has pitched well with a 2.11 ERA in that span. And it was another guy who came over from Oakland late last month that had the big hit as Alex Brown had a 2-run homer (#2/5) in a 3-run 3rd.

Game 3: The Rays extended their win streak to 8 despite scoring only 8 runs over the 3 games of this series but it helps when your pitching only allows 1 as they got a Dantel Chinchilla walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the 10th to eke out a 1-0 victory over the Orioles. Tim Johnson turned in a great start at 6 3 0 0 3 8 and the pen did its job as well with Mario Berumen (3-1) picking up the win as Rays pitching held Baltimore to 3 hits on the day.

Team record: 29-18. The Yankees lost one so we continue to slowly chip away their division lead, now down to 2 games. Next up: Some interleague action as we head to Washington for 3 games. The Nats are off to a middling 24-24 start to the year.

MLB News: The Angels' superstar reliever Jake Cid needs Tommy John surgery and will be lost until mid-2054.
