Cubs Handled by Philadelphia, 5-1
Philadelphia beat Chicago on the strength of starter Chris Short's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 5-1. The loss has the Cubs at 5-5.
George Banks drove in one run for Philadelphia. The 25-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Dick Ellsworth. It was his 2nd RBI of the season. Pancho Herrera went 3 for 4 and drove in the first run. Don Lock cleared the bases with a triple in th eighth inning.
"Nice win for us," said Banks. "Now we'll go after the next one and build a little winning streak."
