Cards news: July 25 -- Deal with Detroit lands OF Hunter Renfroe

Looking to add another bat for the stretch run, the St. Louis Cardinals have acquired outfielder Hunter Renfroe from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for minor-league second baseman Tyler Pettorini.
A four-time All-Star, the 36-year-old Renfroe has been limited to just 66 games/64 starts this season for the Tigers but has been very productive in those games hitting .324 with 19 home runs and 46 RBIs.
Renfroe missed the first part of the season having to sit for five weeks after suffering a strained oblique on March 30.
He still was named to the American League All-Star team.
Renfroe broke into the majors with the San Diego Padres in 2016. He played there until 2019.
Since then, he has played for Tampa Bay (2020),
Milwaukee (2022-23), Boston (2024-2025) Milwaukee (2026-27) and the Tigers.
Taken in the 13th round of the 2013 draft by the Padres, Renfroe is a career .257 hitter with 359 home runs and 950 RBIs.
The Cardinals will pay the remainder of his $13 million salary for this season. He will be a free agent at season's end.
Signed to a minor-league contract by the Cardinals before the 2027 season, the 25-year-old Pettorini has played at high-A Peoria this season.
He got into 20 games/2 starts and hit .360 with one home run and one RBI.
