Cards news; Sept. 4 -- 2B Nico Hoerner to miss six weeks with ankle sprain; Billings recalled
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed second baseman Nico Hoerner on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a sprained ankle in a 9-0 win over Milwaukee on Sept. 4.
The 31-year-old is expected to miss up to six weeks.
Hoener, who signed with the Cardinals as a free agent prior to the 2026 season, was enjoying his best season in St. Louis.
He has played in 120 games/all starts during which he has hit .272 with three homers and 42 RBIs.
The team has recalled first baseman Phoenix Billings from AAA Memphis.
Billings, 27, opened the season as the Cardinals starting first baseman but eventually was sent down to Memphis.
In 87 games/83 with St. Louis, the left-handed hitting Billings hit .211 with 14 home runs and 43 RBIs.
