MLB news: Sept. 29 -- Blue Jays will go to playoffs as wild card
After winning three consecutive American League East Division titles, the Toronto Blue Jays are going back to the playoffs, but this time it will be as a wild card.
A 22-3 rout of the New York Yankees assured the Blue Jays a berth in October.
Toronto (89-70), which trails Boston by six games in the AL East with three games to go, sits a game in front of Kansas City for the top seed among the three wild cards.
It is the fifth straight trip to the playoffs for Toronto.
The Jays last made the World Series in 1993, when it capped the second of a back-to-back title runs.
