FIELD OF DREAMS PROJECT
I am sure if every baseball player who ever played the game, alive or gone, could get another chance at an atbat, a defensive play, or a season, they would jump at the chance. The game gives us a special feeling of youth and hope, and that’s a great part of the joy of OOTP, bringing the names and the teams back to try again.
Every baseball team is unique in its own way. There have been almost 2616 major league baseball teams between 1901 and 2022. My objective is to help relive each and every one even for a moment and give them one more chance. I have done this in the past a few times as a simple random matchup thread, but now I am more convinced to pick up the pace and make it a more realistic competition. Yes, a competition between every major league team that has taken the field.
So in my mind I see the baseball Gods picking two teams out of many and giving them the chance to play again. Kind of a field of dreams that I am sure every player would jump at the chance at. The team with the better record will be the home team in a best of seven series. I have tried to do this many times and in many different formats but I finally think I got the pace that I want.
The winner moves on the loser is eliminated. The winner survives and moves on. Obviously, this is a multiple years long project and honestly something I want to complete before I'm long gone and forgotten. It is a major project of love.
I am doing this in conjunction with the birth of my son, so hopefully by the time he can drive I will be complete. However, I will be going faster which means some less details in the preliminary rounds. Still everything will be tracked throughput the project, every atbat and pitch and manager win.
The preliminary round has 568 total series to go. Leaving 2048 teams that will be dwindled down to 1. I will include a live spreadsheet where you can track results and stats and I will continue to give project updates after every 10 series. ChatGPT will be writing an article about each series.
